Chelsea FC have reportedly opened talks with Roma regarding the sale of midfielder Daniel De Rossi.
Reports in English media suggest that Roma president James Palotta and general manager Franco Baldini were in London to open talks with Chelsea regarding the possible sale of the 29-year-old. Although De Rossi still has a big contract with the Italian club, Roma could let go their talismanic midfielder at just A?10m.
Daniel De Rossi was linked with a move to Manchester City last summer, but the Italian international reportedly turned down the chance of joining them. So Chelsea might find it hard to convince the iconic midfielder in leaving his boyhood club. Apparently Chelsea are about to face competition from Spanish giants Real Madrid as well, who are expected to spend heavily following a disappointing season.
It is believed that Jose Mourinho, who is expected to take over at Stamford Bridge next season, is a big fan of De Rossi and wants him to be the focal-point of a new-look Chelsea midfield. Daniel De Rossi is perhaps the most complete midfielder in the game presently. He is brilliant in sitting back and shielding the defence, but at the same time, he has got excellent passing range and can join the attack with ease. The 29-year-old also has an excellent shot in him and has scored some wonder goals during his time at Roma. But perhaps more importantly, Daniel De Rossi is a leader, a player who can inspire his teammates on the pitch ai??i?? something which Chelsea might require given both John Terry and Frank Lampard are approaching the fag end of their careers.
