Chelsea have officially lodged a complaint against match official Mark Clattenburg to the Premier League match delegate for allegedly using ai???inappropriate languageai??i?? against two of their players during their match against Manchester United.
Chelsea and United were expected to serve up a wonderful footballing contest and in the first half it lived up to its expectations. But the second half of the match was marred by controversial decisions taken by the officials. Unfortunately, after 90 minutes of football, the talking points after the match were Fernando Torresai??i?? sending off and Manchester Unitedai??i??s winning goal which should not have been allowed to stand due to offside.
Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo was left fuming after the match as he felt that the officials robbed his team from a point they deserved out of the game. While Sir Alex was left counting his lucky stars as he was relieved that finally some decisions went his way at Stamford Bridge, which saw they claim a win at Stamford Bridge after 10 long years.
But it seems that the on-field controversies were not restricted to footballing decisions alone. Mark Clattenburg has allegedly given racist remarks against two Chelsea players on the pitch. Chelsea hasnai??i??t disclosed the identity of the two players involved in this incident but it is believed that John Obi Mikel is one amongst those names. Chelsea have lodged an official complaint against Clattenburg to the Premier League delegate and have released an statement confirming this.
“We have a lodged a complaint to the Premier League match delegate with regards to inappropriate language used by the referee and directed at two of our players in two separate incidents during today’s match. The match delegate will pass the complaint to the Football Association. We will make no further comment at this time.” – said a Chelsea spokesman.
Although Clattenburg was unavailable for comments on these allegations, PGMO (Professional Game Match Officials ) have released a statement saying that these allegations were being treated seriously and Clattenburg will be interrogated.
“It(PGMO) is aware of the allegations and they are being treated with the utmost seriousness. Mark will co-operate fully and welcomes the opportunity for the facts to be established. No further comment will be made until matter has been properly investigated.” – A statement from PGMO reads.
Mark Clattenburg, like in any other Premier League match, was miked up during the game and his comments would have been audible to the assistant referee and fourth officials. But interestingly, these official conversations are not being recorded by the Premier League. One certainly hopes for a faster resolution to this case than what happened during the Terry-Ferdinand saga.
