While half the planet will be involved in the biggest football event on this Saturday night, there is a little matter of an English league game at the north of London where Arsenal host The Toffees on the 125th anniversary of the football club. The fringe players were on duty midweek far away from home in the wilderness of Greece, which means the ‘First Team’ was resting at home which was a much needed one, in fact, a deserved one. Arsenal have now taken 19 out of 21 points available in their last seven league games, having just drawing one, quite recently, against Fulham. The home team is now very close to the Top Four, any slip up for those teams can bring Arsene’s forces back to where they belong. It is going to be a tough outing against Mikel Arteta’s former team-mates, they never make life easy for Arsenal anyway.

The biggest disappointment from midweek has to be the loss of Andre Santos through an ankle injuryAi??against the Greek side. Exactly why he was playing that game has to be left for speculation and critical analysis on Arsene’s Champions League policy. With this injury, Arsenal are officially without Full Backs, Santos joining the beautiful new Medical Center along with Gibbs, Sagna and Jenkinson. Kieran Gibbs is not ready for a return for at least three weeks from now, the same time given to Santos for his recovery. In his absence, Vermaelen is expected to fill the void, while Koscielny comes back to Center Back duties and Johan Djourou will continue at Right Full Back. This means, for the first time in this season, all four of Arsenal Center Backs will start the game, some sort of a mini-crisis so to speak. Absolutely nothing is to be changed ahead of that Back Four, the same midfield five along with van Persie will try to improve upon their their chemistry which is getting better with each game.
Alex Song, Aaron Ramsey, Mikel Arteta, Theo Walcott, Gervinho and van Persie didn’t travel with the team to Greece, left behind to take rest and prepare for this game. The early Knockout Round qualification in the Champions League helped Arsene to take such a decision and his handy second team has been doing quite a decent job too. With Gervinho to leave for national duties in January, Arsene needs to give a few more opportunities to Arshavin and Yossi on the left side of the attacking system, which will mostly happen through substitute appearances. With Rosicky back to full fitness, the manager has some backup for Ramsey too. Francis Coquelin and Frimpong areAi??perenniallyAi??knocking on Arsene’s door and Alex Song knows it.

Everton
It took Stoke City 30 years to win again at The Goodison, which happened last weekend as Everton suffered their 7th defeat of the season. David Moyes, one of the three long-time serving managers in the league, is under more pressure than ever before, with many teams now showing quality football to play in Europe. If matters could get any worse for him, well, some of his key men upfront are not available through injuries. Louis Saha (thigh) and Victor Anichebe (groin) are missing for the game against Arsenal, the former having scored the only goal for Everton in the same fixture last year.
With limited striking options, thanks to the poor form of Tim Cahill, Everton will depend on their defence to absorb the pressure from Arsenal, Phil Jagielka being their key man. The summer target of Arsenal, Jagielka holds the Everton defense together, his pace and strength being a key component in his defending abilities. Seamus Coleman and Leon Osman are the premier attacking threats for the away team, and will look to trouble Arsenal. For the travelling party, the Full Backs will have work all day long, with Theo Walcott and Gervinho running at them throughout the game. It will be mighty tough for Everton to come back home with any points against a very confident Arsenal side.

With enormous pressure from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, the kid who has been doing exceptionally well, Theo Walcott has raised his game a few notches as seen in the last two league games. With sheer pace and a very good eye for shooting, Theo can be a nightmare for the opposition Full Backs. With the best left Full Back in the league, Baines on the other side, it will be a tasty battle at the Emirates, which Englishman will win, might well decide the fate of the game.
