Liverpool optimistic of signing Yankuba Minteh, player wants move

Liverpool are optimistic about signing 22-year-old Gambian international Yankuba Minteh from Brighton & Hove Albion.

According to a report by Footy Africa, Yankuba Minteh remains the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a wide attacker in the ongoing transfer window, and they have their sights set on the 22-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion winger.

Per Footy Africa, Liverpool and Brighton are “understood to be maintaining a positive dialogue as they work towards a potential agreement”. Meanwhile, Ben Jacobs has revealed that the young winger is also a target for Manchester City, though there is “no approach yet” for a move. However, Jacobs has suggested that Minteh is “sold on a move to Liverpool” and eager to emulate one of his role models, Sadio Mane.

Yankuba Minteh and his progress in the Premier League

Yankuba Minteh has established himself as one of the most promising young prospects in the Premier League since joining Brighton & Hove Albion from Newcastle United in July 2024. While the 22-year-old has not been highly productive over the last two seasons, he has made significant progress to become a regular in the final third for the Seagulls.

The Gambian winger has managed only ten goals and nine assists in 73 appearances for Brighton thus far. While the numbers need to improve, his talent and ability on the ball have attracted top clubs. Liverpool and Manchester City are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Liverpool’s interest in Yankuba Minteh is understandable. The Reds are targeting at least two wide attackers this summer, as Mohamed Salah’s departure this year has exacerbated the issues created by Luis Diaz’s move to Bayern Munich last summer. While Victor Munoz joined Liverpool this summer, the Merseyside outfit must sign at least one more winger to provide Andoni Iraola with depth on both flanks.

As for Manchester City, Savinho is on the verge of joining Tottenham Hotspur, with Omar Marmoush expected to join the Brazilian at the North London club. Several wide attackers are now on Manchester City’s radar, with Minteh an option worth considering.

However, Manchester City may be too far behind Liverpool in the battle for the Gambian winger’s signature, as the Reds have already failed with two bids to sign him. Additionally, Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool and Minteh have a “broad agreement” over a summer deal, and a formal announcement is expected within days.
