VfB Stuttgart are set to demand at least £50-60 million for Premier League-linked Angelo Stiller after removing his previous release clause.
VfB Stuttgart have taken steps to extract the best possible value from the sale of key midfielder Angelo Stiller after successfully removing his previous release clause. As per Football Insider, the Bundesliga side are now reportedly set to demand at least £50-60 million for the Liverpool and Manchester United-linked German midfielder ahead of the summer.
Angelo Stiller was widely expected to leave Stuttgart last summer following a tremendous season in the Bundesliga. Real Madrid, then managed by Xabi Alonso, seemed like the favourites to land the German midfielder, while Premier League clubs were also keen, but none of those teams came forward with an offer, nor did they show any indication of triggering his then-£40 million release clause.
Stuttgart have since paid a modest sum to the player to remove the release clause, which was part of his agreement with the club. Now, the Bundesliga outfit are set to demand a strong valuation for the player in case some of the previously interested clubs come knocking on their doors.
Stuttgart are now expected to demand £50-60 million, something they might feel is the right valuation of the 25-year-old midfielder. Stiller has a big following in the market as a host of Premier League clubs remain linked with a summer move.
Manchester United and Liverpool are among those in the mix, with both English giants certainly looking to bring in a new midfielder in the close season. The Red Devils had considered signing Stiller last summer as they were keen to add a new midfielder, while also chasing Carlos Baleba and others during that period.
Angelo Stiller to the Premier League?
There is a realistic possibility that one of Manchester United or Liverpool might attempt to explore a move for Stiller in the close season. The Merseysiders are also in the market for a midfielder suitable for their possession-based system, and the German international could well be considered.
The £50-60 million price point may end up suiting Manchester United or Liverpool, especially given that some of their other targets from within the Premier League might prove more expensive. Hence, there is a strong chance that Stiller could leave Stuttgart for a new adventure in England during the close season.
