Manchester City do not want to sell Bernardo Silva amid Barcelona links

Premier League champions Manchester City reportedly hope to keep Bernardo Silva beyond the summer transfer window amid his links with Barcelona.

According to a report by Give Me Sport, Bernardo Silva is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are keen on reinforcing their midfield unit in the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the Manchester City playmaker. However, the Premier League champions want to keep the 100-cap Portuguese international at the Etihad beyond the summer.

Bernardo Silva and his excellent Manchester City stint

Bernardo Silva has been among the most dependable performers in the Premier League since joining Manchester City from AS Monaco in July 2017. The experienced playmaker has been a go-to player for Pep Guardiola, even though he has not been an undisputed first-choice starter throughout his stint at the Etihad.

The 30-year-old has turned out nearly 400 times thus far for Manchester City while chipping in with 69 goals and 71 assists. In addition, Silva has been a mainstay in the final third for his national side for several years, making 100 appearances for Portugal.

Meanwhile, the Portuguese international remains highly sought-after in the market heading into the summer transfer window, even though he is on the wrong side of 30. Barcelona will be one of the prospective suitors vying for the Manchester City playmaker’s signature heading into the summer transfer window.

La Liga adventure beckons?

Bernardo Silva has been on Barcelona’s radar for a long time, with the Blaugrana mulling over securing his services in several summer transfer windows. The continued interest in the long-serving Manchester City playmaker makes sense. While the Catalan giants do not need a new midfielder, they can do with more quality on the flanks amid the over-dependence on Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.

So, Silva has emerged as a viable target for Barcelona, with recent reports claiming he is ready to take a pay cut to join the Blaugrana in the summer transfer window. However, Manchester City will aim to keep the 100-cap Portuguese international beyond the summer, thus creating a roadblock for Barcelona.

The Premier League champions believe the 30-year-old playmaker can be a ” key player” for at least another season. So, it will be interesting to see what the future has in store for Silva amid his links with Barcelona.
