Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea have struck a deal worth over £10 million to sign Saint-Etienne midfield sensation Mathis Amougou.
Chelsea have been on the lookout for a new midfielder in recent weeks and it seems their quest will finally come to an end as they are closing in on the signature of Mathis Amougou. According to a report from the Daily Mail, the Blues have an agreement in place to sign the Saint-Etienne sensation. He will undergo his medical at Stamford Bridge today before putting pen to paper.
Amougou joined the French club in the summer of 2021 and he hasn’t looked back since. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to their first team before the start of the ongoing season.
In his debut campaign with their senior side, he has featured in a total of 17 league games. The 19-year-old midfielder has established himself as a key figure in the team in no time and his performances have put him on the radar of multiple top clubs.

With his contract running out in the summer of 2026, Saint-Etienne were open to a departure as long as their demands were met. Chelsea emerged as a potential destination for the teenager and they are very close to securing his services.
The Blues have been looking to add more depth as well as quality to their midfield of late. While they could have gone for a stop-gap signing, Chelsea were looking to sign a young star who could help them in the short as well as the long run.
They wanted to bring in a prospect with massive potential, someone who is an ideal fit for their project. The Blues have been linked with the likes of Dario Essugo and Nico O’Reilly to bolster their options in midfield. Mathis Amougou is another young star who has been on their wishlist since the start.
They have made significant advancements in their pursuit of the young French midfield. They have agreed a deal to sign him from Saint-Etienne.
