Chelsea ponder last-ditch move for Dario Essugo

Chelsea are making a late push for Sporting CP sensation Dario Essugo, who has been impressing on loan at UD Las Palmas.

Chelsea are looking to add more depth to their midfield before the end of the winter transfer window. They have quite a few young stars on their wishlist and working hard to secure the services of one of them.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Sporting CP’s Dario Essugo is one of the players Chelsea are interested in. The Blues are considering making a move to sign him in the final hours of the transfer window.

Essugo has been a part of the Portuguese club since his childhood days. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to their first team in the summer of 2023. He was sent out on loan to Chaves for the second half of the 2023/24 season in search of regular minutes.

Following his return to the club in the summer, Sporting once again sent him out on loan to UD Las Palmas. He is certainly enjoying his time in Spain as he has featured in 14 La Liga games and has been one of the standout players for his team.

While he prefers playing as a defensive midfielder, he can even feature a touch higher up on the pitch. His impressive performances have put him on the radar of Chelsea who are constantly looking for young players with massive potential.

Chelsea are interested in Essugo’s services

The Blues do not have much depth in the centre of the park. As a result, they are looking to add a midfielder to the mix. They want to sign a young star who is an ideal fit for their project and they do have a few options on their list.

Saint-Étienne’s Mathis Amougou is one of the players they are interested in. While the Blues have been linked with the French sensation, they are also making moves to sign the 19-year-old Portuguese defensive midfielder.

Sporting are expecting movements in the final hours of the transfer window as Chelsea have already held talks to sign him and it will be interesting to see if they can make it happen.

As far as Las Palmas are concerned, they will try their best to keep hold of him as he could be key to their chances of staying in the Spanish top flight. But, they might not have that big a say on his future.
