Christopher Nkunku set for Chelsea stay

Christopher Nkunku is set to stay at Chelsea despite interest from top clubs as the Blues make a decision on the attacker.

According to The Athletic, Christopher Nkunku will not move on deadline day as he is set to stay at Chelsea for the remainder of the season. Manchester United and Bayern Munich pursued the attacker with 17 goals and assists this season, as the Blues made a decision that they do not intend to loan him.

Christopher Nkunku has endured a frustrating season so far with Chelsea despite his performances yielding contributing to 17 goals. Only Cole Palmer has a higher tally in all competitions than the Frenchman, who is then closely followed by main striker Nicolas Jackson.

Enzo Maresca has used the Frenchman as a secondary option in his system, while Nkunku has been a regular starter in the cup games and the Conference League. It is in those competitions that the attacker found his scoring boots, as he has only made three starts from his 19 appearances in the Premier League, totalling 419 minutes.

Nkunku is considered a big-name player in the footballing world, and his unhappiness at the role given at Chelsea made him consider his future at the club ahead of January. He has been uninterested in leaving on loan in the winter window, as Chelsea’s asking price has proved difficult for suitors to comprehend.

Bayern Munich were uninterested in paying the required fee, while Manchester United have also had a long standing interest in the Frenchman. However, Chelsea are not keen to send Nkunku on loan on deadline day, meaning the Frenchman is now set to stay at Stamford Bridge for the remainder of the season.

Chelsea make Christopher Nkunku decision

Chelsea might have been open to sending Nkunku on loan to another club that they did not view as a direct competitor. The Frenchman was keen on a switch to Manchester United, as the Blues were in discussions for Alejandro Garnacho. As per David Ornstein, Chelsea are now open to letting Joao Felix on loan before the window shuts and keeping Nkunku, as they only wanted to sell him.

Aston Villa were linked with Felix, although it appears AC Milan are ahead in the race for the Portuguese forward. As things stand, Chelsea are only keen on letting one of Felix and Nkunku to leave, and the former will get his move rather than the Frenchman.
