Manchester United can only sign Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea on a permanent deal, with the French international not interested in a loan exit in the winter transfer window.
According to a report by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Christopher Nkunku is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils have been keen on reinforcing their offensive unit in the winter transfer window. However, the versatile Chelsea attacker does not want to move away from Stamford Bridge on loan, and a permanent exit is the only solution.
Christopher Nkunku and his frustrating Chelsea spell so far
Christopher Nkunku was one of the most prolific attackers in the world when he joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig in July 2023. However, fitness issues and intense competition for places have hampered the Frenchman’s stint with the West London club, with regular game time in the Premier League eluding him.
While the 27-year-old attacker has been exceptional in the UEFA Europa Conference League and cup competitions, he has managed only 419 minutes of game time in the Premier League. That has not deterred Nkunku’s productivity, as he has contributed to 17 goals in only 1,208 minutes of game time across 29 appearances in all competitions, finding the back of the net 13 times and providing four assists.
However, the French international is frustrated with his situation at Chelsea, and widespread reports have suggested he wants to leave the West London club in the winter transfer window. The situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe, including Manchester United.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Manchester United’s interest in Christopher Nkunku makes sense. The Red Devils have allowed Marcus Rashford and Antony to depart from Old Trafford on loan deals. In addition, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have struggled in the final third. So, Manchester United must reinforce their offensive unit before the winter transfer window shuts down.
Nkunku has thus emerged as a viable target, with recent reports suggesting a loan move might be on the cards. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, the 27-year-old Frenchman does not want to leave Chelsea on a temporary deal. So, a permanent arrangement is the only solution, and the former RB Leipzig star will cost around £60-70 million.
While Nkunku reportedly wants to join Manchester United, a winter loan move will not see the light of day. So, it will be interesting to see if the Red Devils launch the offensive for a permanent deal before Monday’s winter transfer deadline.
