Julian Alvarez unlikely to leave Manchester City

Manchester City are not about to allow Julian Alvarez to leave the club amid heavy links with a move away with Chelsea interested.

According to Football Insider, Manchester City will block any overtures towards Julian Alvarez to ensure the 24-year-old stays ahead of the new season. Reports of an imminent departure have emerged over the last few weeks, with Chelsea among those leading the charge for the Argentine star.

Manchester City to keep Julian Alvarez

Some Manchester City fans were stunned at the prospect of watching Julian Alvarez go after reports emerged the Argentine wanted to leave the club. The attacker only finished another impressive season under Pep Guardiola, but there were growing concerns about his immediate future.

Alvarez deputised for the absent Kevin De Bruyne in the first half of last season and ended the season with 19 goals and 13 assists in all competitions for Man City. While most reports point towards the 24-year-old Manchester City star wanting to leave, the decision is still in the club’s hands.

Alvarez has a contract until 2028, and Manchester City are now prepared to keep him at all costs. They have the power in negotiations to block any move or disregard offers coming in for the Argentine attacker, who might have heard some proposals in the background through agents and intermediaries.

The decision will come as a big blow for some of the suitors, although internally, it’s understood that the 24-year-old Manchester City star wanted to join Real Madrid as his dream club. The idea of coming to the Santiago Bernabeu may entice the attacker, but at this moment, the move seems unlikely.

Alvarez’s decision is a big blow for Chelsea

Chelsea were chasing Alvarez as soon as reports of his possible departure from Manchester City arrived. The Blues are looking for a striker and may have been open to investing heavily in yet another Man City star after the success they found last season with Cole Palmer.

However, the Argentine star is likely to stay put at the Etihad and continue his career here for another season. They might still bide their time in the hope of a change of heart from the Premier League champions, as they will be ready should another opportunity arrive.
