Manchester City block Julian Alvarez exit amid PSG links

Manchester City will not part ways with Julian Alvarez in the summer transfer window amid his reported links with Paris Saint-Germain.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Julian Alvarez is the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain. The Ligue 1 champions want to sign the Argentine international as a long-term replacement for Kylian Mbappe. However, Manchester United will rebuff all approaches for the young striker in the summer transfer window.

The Julian Alvarez story

Julian Alvarez has been one of the best young attackers in the world in the last few years. The 24-year-old rose in prominence during his spell with River Plate, playing a leading role in the Argentine club’s success in the 2021 season. Those performances alerted several high-profile clubs across Europe before Manchester City came calling.

The Argentine international has gone from strength to strength during his stint with Manchester City, even though he has not been the undisputed first-choice starter in the last two years. Alvarez amassed an exceptional tally of 19 goals and 13 assists in 54 appearances across all competitions in the 2023/24 campaign.

However, Alvarez’s long-term future has become the subject of intense speculation this week. Reports have claimed that the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner wants more regular game time next season. Fabrizio Romano has corroborated that notion, suggesting he has informed Manchester City of his demands. Meanwhile, the player is a target for Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG interested

PSG’s interest in Julian Alvarez is understandable. The Ligue 1 champions are scouring the market for a new attacker heading into the summer transfer window after losing Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid on a free transfer. So, several candidates, including Lautaro Martinez, have emerged on PSG’s radar.

However, Alvarez is also a viable target for Les Parisiens, considering his exploits for Manchester City in the last two seasons. But the Premier League champions will not entertain offers to part ways with the 24-year-old Argentine international in the summer transfer window.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is also a target for other high-profile clubs like Chelsea and Atletico Madrid. However, a move away from the Etihad is not on the cards, with Manchester City eager to keep hold of Alvarez.
