Fabrizio Romano has commented on Arsenal’s links with Mikayil Faye while suggesting that Barcelona will hold internal talks over his future.
According to a report by Fabrizio Romano on Caught Offside, Arsenal links with Mikayil Faye are not concrete. Recent updates have linked the North London club with the Barcelona wonderkid. However, the Italian journalist has not heard about those speculations while revealing that the Blaugrana will hold internal talks over the future of the 19-year-old prospect.
Mikayil Faye and his Barcelona Journey
Barcelona beat heavy competition to sign Mikayil Faye from NK Kustosija last summer. The Senegalese whizkid has been in Europe for a little over a year. But he has shown tremendous potential in the last 14 months, with his exploits earning him his senior cap with Senegal this year.
The 19-year-old is yet to make his first-team debut for Barcelona and has played for his club’s reserve side thus far. Faye has turned out 26 times this season for Barcelona Atletic, chipping in with four goals. With the youngster showing remarkable potential, several high-profile clubs across Europe are showing interest in him.
Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on securing Mikayil Faye’s services in the summer transfer window. However, his next destination might be Arsenal, with the North London club eager to bring him to the Emirates in the coming months.
Arsenal Interested
Arsenal’s interest in Mikayil Faye is understandable. While the partnership between William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes has flourished, Mikel Arteta has tended to rotate the latter, with Jakub Kiwior getting rare starts at the heart of the defence. The Barcelona wonderkid is thus a viable target for Arsenal.
However, Fabrizio Romano has ruled out a deal for Faye, with the reputed Italian journalist claiming he has not heard anything about Arsenal’s links with the Senegalese international. In addition, Romano has pointed to Barcelona planning internal talks over the youngster’s long-term future at the club.
It will be interesting to see if a summer deal for Faye sees the light of day for Arsenal. However, recent reports have suggested that Barcelona might not cash in on the 19-year-old defensive sensation in the summer transfer window despite the never-ending financial issues.
