Manchester United are interested in acquiring the services of 19-year-old Barcelona defensive sensation Mikayil Faye.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Manchester United’s new part owners are looking to bolster their defence in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Red Devils want to sign a young prospect who can help them in the long run, and they have their eyes set on Barcelona wonderkid Mikayil Faye.

The 19-year-old defensive sensation came up the ranks at Senegalese club Diambars FC. He made a move to Croatia in the winter of 2023. Faye showed great signs of progress at NK Kustosija on the back of which Barcelona acquired his services last summer.

While he is currently a part of the Barcelona B team, there is still a lot of interest in his services. His performances at the youth level and his recent international debut have convinced top clubs that is a star in the making. While the Catalan giants did reject offers from Nice and Lens in the winter window, bigger clubs could come knocking in the summer.

Manchester United scouting Mikayil Faye

Manchester United are one of the clubs that are closely monitoring the 19-year-old’s progress over the past three months. Their scouts were present in the stands to watch Faye’s international debut against Gabon on Friday. He managed to put in a strong defensive display in their 3-0 win and even bagged a wonder goal from 30 yards out.

The Red Devils are actively looking for a left-back and a centre-back. They have suffered because of the injuries to Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw this season. Manchester United thus want to ensure they have enough depth and are looking for a young prospect.

They are monitoring Faye, and he seems to be an ideal fit as he can play as a centre-back as well as a left-back. But, signing him won’t be easy given the amount of interest in him from elsewhere and the fact that he is Barcelona’s long-term plans. However, the Catalan giants have a financial crisis and an offer of around £25 million will make them think according to the report.
