Ligue 1 club RC Lens offered €9 million to Barcelona to sign Mikayil Faye, but the Catalan giants have turned down the bid.
According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Mikayil Faye is the subject of interest from RC Lens. The Ligue 1 club attempted to secure the services of the 19-year-old defensive sensation in a deal worth €9 million. But Barcelona rejected the bid after internal discussions regarding his future.
Mikayil Faye on the Rise
Mikayil Faye is one of the best young defensive prospects in Europe. The Senegalese defender spent most of his formative years in his homeland, graduating from the Diambars FC youth division. His first adventure in Europe came with NK Kustosija, although he spent only five months at the Croatian club.
The teenage sensation gained popularity in the market before Barcelona sealed the agreement to sign him. The 19-year-old has been a regular for Barcelona Atletic this season, managing nearly 1,500 minutes of game time across 17 appearances thus far. But with the Blaugrana yet to hand Faye his first-team debut, there has been speculation surrounding his future.
Widespread reports have claimed that a loan move might be on the cards to fast-track his progress. Recent updates have linked Mikayil Faye with Chelsea and Girona. Ligue 1 club RC Lens also wanted to secure his services, offering €9 million to land the Barcelona prodigy. But the bid has not been successful.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Lens submitted the formal bid, which Barcelona knocked back. The Blaugrana held an internal discussion over Faye’s future. And it is hardly surprising that they have rejected an offer worth €9 million, which would have sent him to Ligue 1 on a permanent move.
Mikayil Faye has carved out a place for himself in the Barcelona first team for Barcelona Atletic. He is on the cusp of breaking into the first-team squad. And with Jules Kounde struggling and Andreas Christensen facing an uncertain time at the club, a bright future likely awaits the Senegalese defensive sensation.
As for RC Lens, the Ligue 1 club must look elsewhere for defensive reinforcement. With Barcelona not interested in entertaining any bids for Faye, a winter move is not on the cards for the 19-year-old.
