Premier League heavyweights Chelsea are reportedly still interested in signing 19-year-old Barcelona prodigy Mikayil Faye.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Mikayil Faye is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues were also interested in securing his services in the summer transfer window. But Barcelona won the race to sign the 19-year-old defender from NK Kustosija.

Who is Mikayil Faye?

Mikayil Faye has come leaps and bounds since arriving in Europe. The Senegalese defensive sensation spent most of his formative years in his homeland before joining Croatian club NK Kustosija in February 2023. But his stint in Croatia did not last long, with many high-profile clubs setting their sights on him.

Barcelona and Chelsea were the front-runners to secure his services in the summer transfer window. The Blues were keen on adding to their enviable collection of youngsters by signing Faye. But Barcelona won the race to sign the 19-year-old, with the youngster joining the club’s reserve team.

A later report revealed that Chelsea missed out on signing Mikayil Faye due to small margins. But the Blues have not stopped keeping tabs on the youngster’s progress despite losing the race to secure his services. The teenage sensation has been a regular for Barcelona Atletic this season, turning out 15 times thus far.

Chelsea Still Interested in Mikayil Faye

Reports have also suggested that a first-team debut might be on the cards in the ongoing season. But as we approach the January transfer window, the prospect of a loan move looms for Faye. Barcelona might look to ship him off on a temporary deal to accelerate his development.

That has brought the interest from Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund into the spotlight. The two European bigwigs are keen on signing the 19-year-old Barcelona prodigy. But a loan move to Chelsea will make no sense, considering he will unlikely get regular game time in the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge.

A permanent deal will make sense. But Barcelona will not entertain any offers to sell Mikayil Faye. So, a move to Chelsea will unlikely materialise anytime soon, with the reigning La Liga champions viewing a long-term future for the 19-year-old at the Catalan club.
