La Liga champions Barcelona are not working on a deal to sign 22-year-old English prospect Mason Greenwood from Manchester United.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Mason Greenwood might not join Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The reigning La Liga champions are not working on a deal to sign the 22-year-old. Meanwhile, Manchester United are ready to cash in on the controversial attacker in the summer transfer window.

Mason Greenwood and his Journey

Mason Greenwood has had a rollercoaster ride in his career thus far. One of the brightest young prospects to ever emerge from Manchester United’s fabled youth division, the Englishman set the stage alight after graduating from the academy. But controversies off the pitch forced him to the sidelines as he served time in jail.

Since becoming a free man, the 22-year-old has worked hard on his game before securing a loan move to Getafe last summer. That move came after Manchester United’s highly-criticised contemplation of re-integrating the youngster into the first-team squad this season. But fan backlash forced Manchester United’s hand as they loaned him to Getafe.

Greenwood has been a solid performer for Getafe this season, establishing himself as a pivotal figure. He has contributed to 13 goals in 26 appearances thus far, finding the back of the net eight times while providing five assists. Meanwhile, the English attacker’s progress at the Spanish club has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona.

Barcelona Calling?

Barcelona’s interest in Mason Greenwood is understandable if we do not factor in his off-field controversies. The 22-year-old has settled down in La Liga and is one of the best young prospects in the world. So, with Raphinha facing an uncertain future at the Catalan club, it behoves them to invest in someone like the Manchester United loanee.

Reports have claimed that Greenwood dreams of joining Barcelona, handing the Blaugrana a boost. But the Englishman will have to put that dream to bed, with Fabrizio Romano suggesting that the reigning La Liga champions are not working on a deal to sign him.

Nevertheless, Manchester United are ready to cash in on the youngster in the summer transfer window. With Greenwood not having a future at Old Trafford, it will be interesting to see where he lands.
