Chelsea are reportedly open to investing in Girona striker Artem Dovbyk in the summer as the Blues could see value in the signing.

According to Fichajes, Chelsea are prepared to pay what it takes to sign Artem Dovbyk in the summer. Girona reportedly value the Ukrainian striker at €45 million, which represents a lower price compared to some of the targets Chelsea have in mind ahead of the next window.

Chelsea to pay up for Artem Dovbyk?

Any underdog story always comes with future consequences, and that could be the case with Girona. After a flying season in La Liga, which could still land them the league title should things go their way, the Catalan club are in danger of losing some of their top performers to bigger sides.

For instance, they might end up seeing the last of Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbyk as Chelsea are now eyeing a move. The Blues were keen ahead of the January transfer window. But due to FFP regulations, they could not sign any player in that month.

In the summer, they will come into the market with fresh ideas, and a striker remains their top priority. Arsenal are also keen on Dovbyk as Mikel Arteta also looks out for a new centre-forward to improve their attacking setup. Chelsea, however, are reportedly open to paying what is necessary to capture the €45 million-rated La Liga striker, with Girona unlikely to stand in his way should he want to leave.

Dovbyk might see the links to Chelsea as an opportunity to play for a big club and in the Premier League. His €45 million valuation does make sense and is within range of what the Blues might be able to spend, although he might also be seen as a cheaper alternative to some of their other high-profile targets.

Why are Chelsea chasing Artem Dovbyk?

At first glance, the Ukrainian’s 14 goals in La Liga and 22 goal contributions in all do represent a solid return for the striker, although Chelsea might also chase him for cost purposes. For instance, Victor Osimhem remains the top summer target. However, the Nigerian carries a mammoth €130 million release clause, and there is no way to convince Napoli to sell for less.

Similarly, they are also wary of Ivan Toney’s potential asking price, although the big reason behind abandoning that pursuit is his age. Considering Dovbyk is not much younger than the Brentford star, it is clear that Chelsea are contemplating a move for the Girona star because they consider him a cheaper alternative to either Osimhen or Toney.
