Premier League heavyweights Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Artem Dovbyk from La Liga club Girona this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Artem Dovbyk is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Gunners are in the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window. And they have set their sights on signing the 26-year-old forward from La Liga club Girona.

The Rise of Artem Dovbyk

Artem Dovbyk has established himself as one of the best strikers in La Liga this season. The Ukrainian international joined Girona from SK Dnipro-1 in August 2023 and has driven his team’s title charge in the ongoing campaign.

The 26-year-old has been one of the top scorers in La Liga this season, with Girona rising to second in the standings. While winning the title might be a tall order, they will fancy a top-four finish. Dovbyk’s 15 goals and seven assists in 28 outings have played their part in Girona’s unprecedented rise.

The striker’s progress and productivity in the 2023/24 season have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are interested in the former SK Dnipro-1 attacker, with Arsenal joining the race to secure his services in the summer transfer window.

Arsenal Interested

Arsenal’s interest in Artem Dovbyk is understandable. The Gunners are in the market for a prolific striker heading into the summer transfer window. While Mikel Arteta has Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah in his squad, neither attacker has been clinical or productive in the final third. So, it behoves Arsenal to sign a centre-forward with a high output ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Several candidates, including Lautaro Martinez, have thus emerged on Arsenal’s radar. But Dovbyk is also a viable target, with the 26-year-old contributing to 22 goals in just 28 outings thus far in the 2023/24 season. But he might cost a premium due to his long-term contract with Girona.

Irrespective of whether Girona can win the title in La Liga, they will struggle to retain the services of the best assets like Dovbyk and Aleix Garcia. And it will be interesting to see if Arsenal can prise him away from Catalonia in the summer transfer window.
