Manchester United have entered the race for Ferland Mendy alongside Chelsea as Real Madrid could cash in on the French defender.

According to Fichajes, Real Madrid could sell Ferland Mendy in the summer, with a host of top clubs chasing the 28-year-old defender. Manchester United are the latest to join the hunt for the French left-back, with Chelsea also well-positioned in the hunt.

Manchester United and Chelsea interested in Ferland Mendy

Manchester United and Chelsea have had issues in the full-back positions as the Premier League giants could find a viable target to strengthen their squad. The Blues have had particular issues with both their starting full-backs, Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella.

The latter already has interest from Spain, as Chelsea could open the doors early for an exit. As for Chilwell, he remains one of their leading players, but injury issues continue to keep him out of action for prolonged periods. Hence, they are looking at Ferland Mendy, among other options, but the 28-year-old defender does not fit their transfer policy.

Chelsea have consistently signed players under a specific age group, and considering Mendy himself has plenty of fitness issues of late, they may not pursue the Frenchman with all seriousness. Manchester United, however, could look at the idea of signing the 28-year-old defender as a competitor for Luke Shaw.

The Red Devils have also been without Shaw and Tyrell Malacia for the majority of the season so far and could seek a strong candidate to replace the latter. Real Madrid are open to selling Mendy for around €30 million or more, which would seem ideal, considering he will have a year left on his deal when the season ends.

Real Madrid ready to part ways with Mendy

Manchester United may face shortages at left back, but they recently activated a break clause in Sergio Reguilon’s loan deal that saw the Spaniard return to Tottenham. Any move for Mendy from the Red Devils will likely happen in the summer as Erik ten Hag may have seen Malacia’s progress and may feel the Dutchman is ready to return.

As for Mendy, Real Madrid are open to a sale, as they are planning on bringing in a new left back in the summer. The 28-year-old defender has endured a torrid time with persistent fitness troubles, which has seen Carlo Ancelotti play other players in the position.

While Chelsea are unlikely to pursue Mendy with any vigour, other clubs like Bayern Munich are also keen on the 28-year-old defender. Madrid are incidentally eyeing Alphonse Davies or Theo Hernandez as probable replacement options for the Frenchman when he departs in the summer.
