Real Madrid will pursue AC Milan defender Theo Hernandez if they fail to secure the services of Bayern Munich speedster Alphonso Davies.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Theo Hernandez is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues want to sign Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich to bolster their left-back department. But they have identified the French international as an alternative to Davies.

Theo Hernandez and His Resurgence at AC Milan

Theo Hernandez has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the world since joining AC Milan from Real Madrid. The 26-year-old floundered at Real Madrid after arriving from Atletico Madrid in 2017. His stint at the Santiago Bernabeu lasted only two years, with the Rossoneri landing him in July 2019.

The French international has come leaps and bounds at San Siro, with his exploits helping him establish a foothold in his national team. Hernandez has turned out 23 times thus far for France, with his market value rising to €55 million. Meanwhile, he has made 187 appearances for AC Milan, chipping in with 26 goals and 30 assists.

Hernandez’s progress at AC Milan has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing him. But his former club, Real Madrid, might soon enter the race to secure his services next summer.

A Real Madrid Second Coming on the Cards?

Real Madrid will delve into the market for a left-back heading into the 2024 summer transfer window. Ferland Mendy has blown hot and cold due to his recent fitness issues, while Fran Garcia has not shown the levels to become the first-choice left-back for Real Madrid. So, it behoves Los Blancos to invest in a player for the position.

Alphonso Davies has thus emerged as the top target for Real Madrid. But the Merengues are keeping their options open, as Bayern Munich will be tough negotiators. So, Theo Hernandez is their alternative if they fail to land Davies next summer.

The 23-cap French international is reaching his peak years and should hit the ground running at the Santiago Bernabeu. He might also feel he has some unfinished business at Real Madrid after failing to make his mark in his previous stint. So, it will be interesting to see if a second coming sees the light of day.
