Real Madrid hopeful of completing deal to sign Alphonso Davies

La Liga giants are reportedly optimistic of signing 23-year-old Canadian wide man Alphonso Davies from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Alphonso Davies is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. And the Merengues are confident that they will succeed in negotiations with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich over a deal for the 23-year-old full-back in the 2024 summer transfer window.

Alphonso Davies has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Bundesliga since joining Bayern Munich from Vancouver Whitecaps. The Canadian international was a promising winger when he arrived in Germany. But Hansi Flick converted him into a rampaging left-back, using his pace to good effect.

Since then, Davies has come leaps and bounds, becoming a pivotal figure for Bayern Munich. Despite being only 23 years old, he has turned out nearly 200 times for the Bavarian giants, chipping in with eight goals and 28 assists. Meanwhile, his market value has soared to €70 million. But the Bundesliga champions are in a spot of bother over the player’s long-term future at the Allianz Arena.

The boisterous full-back will enter the final 18 months of his contract with Bayern Munich at the turn of the year. And recent reports have claimed that he will not sign another deal with Die Roten. The situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid.

Ferland Mendy faces an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu after a few injury-riddled campaigns. The fitness issues have hampered the Frenchman’s performance levels, compelling Real Madrid to consider a sale. In addition, Fran Garcia has not shown the levels to justify being the long-term first-choice left-back for Los Blancos.

So, it behoves Real Madrid to delve into the market for a left-back heading into the 2024 summer transfer window. Davies is thus a viable target for the Spanish giants, despite Bayern Munich’s recent statements. And the Merengues are confident they will land the 23-year-old, especially with the player ready to run down his contract.
