Tottenham Hotspur will only pursue Conor Gallagher if they part ways with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the January transfer window.

According to a report by 90min, Conor Gallagher is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. But a move for the Chelsea mainstay will only materialise if they part ways with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the January transfer window. Meanwhile, the West London club will demand around £50 million to part ways with the English midfielder.

Conor Gallagher and His Rise at Chelsea

Conor Gallagher has established a foothold in the Chelsea midfield since returning from a successful loan spell at Crystal Palace. The 23-year-old was in and out of the starting lineup last season but has become a mainstay in the middle of the park for the West London club this term.

The English international has also risen in stature for the Three Lions while donning the armband for Chelsea in several games this season. Gallagher has turned out 23 times thus far this season, chipping in with four assists. But the player’s long-term Chelsea future is uncertain heading into the January transfer window.

An Uncertain Future for Conor Gallagher

The Englishman will enter the last 18 months of his contract next month, putting Chelsea in a spot of bother. The Blues are thus considering cashing in on Gallagher despite his importance to Mauricio Pochettino’s team. Chelsea can register the entire transfer fee as profit from his sale, considering he is a homegrown player. Meanwhile, Conor Gallagher is a target for several clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham’s interest in Gallagher stems from the lack of options beyond James Maddison for the attacking midfield berth. In addition, the Chelsea mainstay can bolster the central midfield position, with the first-choice duo of Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr set to represent their national teams at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Conor Gallagher is thus a viable target for Tottenham. However, the North London club will only pursue the 23-year-old if they part ways with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg next month. Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou is open to keeping hold of the Danish international. If that happens, the Chelsea midfielder, valued at around £50 million, will not arrive.

Chelsea’s asking price of £50 million might also pose a problem for Tottenham. In addition, recent reports have suggested that the West London club might not do business with Daniel Levy. Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino wants to keep the Englishman at Chelsea. So, a deal might not materialise even if Tottenham can sell Hojbjerg in January.
