Chelsea are seeking £50 million from Tottenham Hotspur for the services of Conor Gallagher

Premier League giants Chelsea appear ready to listen to offers for Tottenham Hotspur target Conor Gallagher but are seeking around £50 million for the English midfielder’s services.

Gallagher came through the ranks at Cobham, enjoying several loan spells elsewhere before making an impact in Blue. He was touted to leave the club last summer but stayed put and is currently on a redemption arc under Mauricio Pochettino.

The 23-year-old is a dynamic presence in the middle of the park and has impressed under Pochettino. In fact, the Englishman has been one of the few shining lights in what has so far been a poor campaign for the Blues.

One side who are currently doing well is Tottenham and they will be well aware of Gallagher’s attributes having come close to landing him in the summer. Ange Postecoglou’s style of football would suit Gallagher’s traits and it could prove to be a beneficial partnership for both parties.

With the future of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg yet unclear, Tottenham will have to make decisions in January. Should the Danish star depart, it becomes imperative that they bring in a replacement. Quality and quantity are both needed in order to ensure Postecoglou’s high-energy system flourishes.

But according to The Sun, Gallagher will not come cheap. Chelsea have invested heavily but have put together what appears to be a bloated and disjointed squad. It is imperative that exits are made and for the right price, Gallagher is certainly on the market.

At 23, Gallagher needs to be playing regularly and is currently doing so at Chelsea. He was also handed the armband earlier this season, a show of his potential as a leader. However, unless there is a future for him at Stamford Bridge, he is better off moving elsewhere, even if it is to a direct rival.

The fact that he won the Player of the Year award while on loan at Crystal Palace is a brilliant indication of the player’s versatility to adapt to different tactics. His attributes could certainly go up a notch under a manager such as Postecoglou.
