Barcelona will be willing to fork out €15-20 million to sign prodigious Belgian midfielder Arthur Vermeeren from Royal Antwerp next year.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Arthur Vermeeren is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are in the market for a midfielder heading into the January transfer window. And they are ready to cough up €15-20 million to sign the prodigious Belgian midfielder from Royal Antwerp.

Arthur Vermeeren is one of the best young prospects in his homeland, offering hope for the next group of world-beaters. The 18-year-old passed through the academies at Lierse SK and KV Mechelen before joining Royal Antwerp in July 2018. And he has come leaps and bounds at the club in the last half a decade.

The prodigious Belgian midfielder made his first-team debut as a 17-year-old at the onset of the 2022/23 season. And he has steadily grown in stature at the Bosuilstadion, becoming a regular for Royal Antwerp. Vermeeren has already turned out nine times thus far this term, chipping in with two assists.

Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Reports this year have linked the teenage sensation with Premier League giants. But Barcelona might be in the pole position to sign him in a transfer window in 2024.

Barcelona signed two midfielders — Ilkay Gundogan and Oriol Romeu — in the summer transfer window. But both players are on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the final phase of their respective careers. So, it behoves Barcelona to invest in a younger midfielder at the first available opportunity.

Vermeeren has thus emerged as a viable target for Barcelona, who will run the rule over him in the UEFA Champions League clashes with Royal Antwerp this season. Meanwhile, the report by Fichajes has claimed that the Blaugrana will be happy to shell out around €15-20 million to sign the prodigious Belgian midfielder.

But it is unclear if Royal Antwerp will be happy to accept €15-20 million to part ways with the 18-year-old. Considering his talent and potential, the Belgian outfit might demand a higher price. And it will be interesting to see how the negotiations between the two clubs pan out.
