Manchester City are interested in 20-year-old Bayer Leverkusen prospect Florian Wirtz, a target for Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Barcelona.
According to a report by Fichajes, Manchester City have enquired about the services of Florian Wirtz. The Bayer Leverkusen sensation has gone from strength to strength over the past 24 months. And he is on the radar of some of the best clubs in world football, including Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Barcelona.
Wirtz joined Bayer Leverkusen back in the winter of 2020. He started off at their Under-19 setup. And in just six months’ time, he was promoted to their first team. The German international has already racked up over 100 appearances for their first team.
In his 105 appearances for Leverkusen, the 20-year-old has managed to rack up 55 goal contributions. He has found the back of the net on 25 occasions and has assisted his teammates 30 times.
Despite being injured for a large part of the 2022/23 season, he featured in 25 matches and contributed towards 12 goals. He has continued his form into the new season, with two goal contributions in as many matches.
His exceptional performances have resulted in him being a regular feature in the German national team of late. The 20-year-old has four years left on his deal at Leverkusen. But given the amount of interest in his services, he could be on his way to a bigger club sooner rather than later.
Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid are all interested in the German sensation. Los Blancos have focused on young talented players of late, and they would love to have him in their ranks. Similar is the story of Chelsea, who have spent a fortune on young players from across Europe.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are struggling with their finances, and they are still trying to figure out a way to land exceptional young talents to the club. Despite interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe, Manchester City could still end up winning the race.
Pep Guardiola’s team recently suffered a major blow, as Kevin De Bruyne sustained a long-term injury. The Belgian international has become injury prone of late, and City are looking for a long-term replacement.
Given the performances of Wirtz over the past few seasons, they believe he could be an ideal replacement. Manchester City have already enquired about his services. They are looking to land him at the club and want to assess his situation at the German club.
While they are keen on having him in their ranks, a deal in the ongoing transfer window still looks unlikely because he has a market value of €85 million. And, signing him will require a huge investment. On top of that, Xabi Alonso wants to keep Wirtz in his ranks for as long as possible.
