A host of clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester City, want Florian Wirtz, with Real Madrid and Barcelona also keen.

According to Fichajes, a host of top clubs are chasing Florian Wirtz for a summer move. Bayer Leverkusen are keen on holding on to their 19-year-old German prodigy. But the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid could prove tempting destinations for the attacking midfielder.

Florian Wirtz was already a top talent two years ago when he broke through at Bayer Leverkusen. Some of the top clubs have chased the 19-year-old German prodigy for quite a while. But the Bundesliga club have done a fine job holding onto the player and developing his talents.

Wirtz is a progressive attacking midfielder who has shown the versatility of playing great positional football. Under the tutelage of Xabi Alonso, known to play a style of football reminiscent of that of Pep Guardiola or Mikel Arteta, it is no surprise that Arsenal and Manchester City want the 19-year-old German prodigy.

Pep Guardiola has admired the 19-year-old and believes he could fit in well at Manchester City. With Ilkay Gundogan likely to depart, and Bernardo Silva’s future uncertain, a new addition might be considered. Manchester City will look into the idea of Wirtz and might pay up to a reported €70 million fee that Leverkusen reportedly want.

If he could fit Manchester City’s style, then Mikel Arteta will also feel he might integrate well at Arsenal. The Gunners are in the market for a new attacking midfielder to play on the left side of the midfield three. Gabri Veiga remains a target, but the Gunners might consider it if Wirtz becomes available.

Arteta wants multiple players in every position and must complete his squad with astute additions. A battle between Arsenal and Manchester City could ensue for the 19-year-old German prodigy, who also has interest coming from the giant figures of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Barcelona could pull out of the race due to their financial troubles. They are in the market for bargains or free deals, including Manchester City’s Gundogan in the summer. However, if the situation demands them to pay a hefty fee, which might be around the €70 million mark in Wirtz’s case, they might as well bow out.

Real Madrid may show an interest in bringing the 19-year-old German prodigy to Spain. It is difficult to see any player reject the approaches of the Merengues if they come knocking. However, whether Wirtz fits their style of play is an altogether different question, which could allow the Premier League sides to swoop in.

Bayer Leverkusen remain relaxed with the 19-year-old’s situation, considering he has a contract until 2027. They might demand a hefty fee to consider a sale in the summer and know well the capabilities of Premier League sides’ ability to pay big for progressive talents.
