Barcelona sporting director Deco recently contacted the entourage of Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong, valued at €30 million.

According to Carlos Monfort, Jeremie Frimpong remains the subject of interest from Barcelona. And the Catalan club’s sporting director Deco recently contacted the Dutchman’s representatives. Meanwhile, Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen will demand around €30 million to part ways with the 22-year-old full-back.

Jeremie Frimpong has come leaps and bounds since joining Bayer Leverkusen from Celtic in January 2021. A promising right-back when he moved to BayArena, the Dutchman has established himself as one of the best young prospects in the Bundesliga. And he has become a mainstay in the back four for Die Werkself.

The 22-year-old enjoyed an excellent 2022/23 season, contributing to 20 goals in 48 appearances. Frimpong found the back of the net nine times while providing 11 assists for Bayer Leverkusen. And the youngster’s progress at the Bundesliga club has not gone unnoticed, with several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona, setting their sights on him.

Frimpong has been on Barcelona’s radar for several months now. And with the Blaugrana yet to sign a right-back, the young full-back is a viable target for them. It now seems like Barcelona’s sporting director Deco recently made the first move by contacting Frimpong’s entourage.

But Barcelona will prioritise signing Joao Cancelo from Manchester City if things go to plan for them. Widespread reports have claimed that the two parties have already sealed an agreement on personal terms. But the transfer fee will be an issue for Barcelona amid the never-ending financial mess.

So the Catalan giants must keep their options open, with Frimpong emerging as a viable alternative to Cancelo. Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen will demand around €30 million to part ways with the 22-year-old. But it is unclear if Barcelona will meet the Bundesliga club’s valuation of the Dutch defender.

Frimpong’s price tag of €30 million makes him a more achievable target for Barcelona. But with Cancelo being the priority target for the Blaugrana, a move for the Bayer Leverkusen full-back is on the back burner right now. And it will be interesting to see if the Dutch full-back becomes a top target to bolster Barcelona’s right-back options.
