Barcelona are keen on having Joao Cancelo in their ranks and have agreed personal terms with the 29-year-old Manchester City full-back.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are pushing for the signatures of Joao Cancelo. The Catalan giants are keen on having a new full-back in their ranks. The Manchester City defender has been on their radar for a while now, and they have finally started making moves to land him at the club.

Cancelo joined Manchester City back in the summer of 2019 from Juventus. The Portuguese international went from strength to strength after making the move. He became an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s first team. But, things took a turn last season as the 29-year-old fell out of favour.

The former Juventus star started the season in fine fashion and was regularly used by the Spanish manager. But, things changed when Guardiola shifted to the 3-2-4-1 formation. Cancelo’s game time took a hit and he confronted the manager. Things did not go down well as the 29-year-old was ultimately sent out on a short loan to Bayern Munich.

In the second half of the season, he featured in a total of 15 Bundesliga matches and was on the pitch for just over 1,000 minutes. The Portuguese international contributed towards five goals. Reports suggested that the German giants wanted to sign him on a permanent basis but decided against it.

The 29-year-old has returned back to his parent club. But there might not be any future for him at the Etihad. City are ready to offload Cancelo, but they are looking for a considerable fee to let go of the Portuguese international, who is amongst the best full-backs in the world.

Meanwhile, Barcelona have been interested in the former Juventus defender since January. Xavi wants the 29-year-old as his new right-back, and they have started making moves to sign him. They were in talks with the player’s entourage and have managed to agree on personal terms with the player. Cancelo is keen on joining the Catalan giants and is awaiting an agreement between the two parties.

Barcelona are currently in talks with Manchester City, and the major point of discussion is the structure of the deal. The Catalan giants are looking to use part of the funds raised by the departure of Ousmane Dembele, who is all set to join Paris Saint-Germain.
