Barcelona and Manchester United have reportedly met the representatives of 22-year-old Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Jeremie Frimpong is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants have held talks with the 22-year-old’s agent Jeffrey Lemmert. Meanwhile, the Bayer Leverkusen full-back is also a target for Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

Jeremie Frimpong has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Bundesliga since joining Bayer Leverkusen. The Dutchman arrived from Celtic in January 2021 and has become a pivotal figure in the last two years. He has also earned a call-up to the Dutch national squad but is yet to make his international debut.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed an excellent 2022/23 season, regularly chipping in with handy contributions in the final third. The youngster has amassed eight goals and nine assists in 36 outings thus far. And Frimpong’s progress has captured the attention of several top clubs, including Barcelona and Manchester United.

The Dutch full-back has been on Barcelona’s radar for several months. But the Catalan giants have never gone beyond monitoring until this week. And Barcelona’s efforts to sign him have now ramped up, with the Blaugrana meeting his agent.

Romano claims that Barcelona recently met Jeffrey Lemmert, Frimpong’s agent. And Barcelona’s eagerness to sign a right-back is understandable, considering they are yet to find a long-term successor to Dani Alves. But the 22-year-old full-back is also a target for Manchester United.

Recent reports claimed that Manchester United recently initiated discussions with the youngster. And Fabrizio Romano has corroborated those claims while throwing Barcelona and Bayern Munich’s names into the hat. As for Manchester United, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford, Frimpong is a viable target.

But Barcelona’s emergence in the race to sign Frimpong complicates matters for Manchester United. That said, the Catalan giants are not in a healthy position to afford the 22-year-old Bayer Leverkusen full-back. On the other hand, Manchester United should be able to meet the Bundesliga club’s asking price. So it will be interesting to see where the player lands this summer.
