Manchester United have initiated a discussion as they look to acquire the services of Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United are keen on having Jeremie Frimpong in their ranks. The club have already held a talk with his agent Jeffrey Lemmert as they look to sign him in the summer.

The 22-year-old full-back has had an outstanding season and a lot of clubs across Europe have their eyes set on him. United do not intend on missing out on him and have already made the first move. The talk with his agent has gone according to plan for United and they are expected to place a bid for him in the summer.

Frimpong started off at the Manchester City youth academy. He came through the ranks at the club but couldn’t break into the first team. The 22-year-old decided to move on from the club and joined Celtic in 2019. After impressive performances in Scotland, Bayer Leverkusen decided to go all out for the Dutch international in the winter of 2021.

He has since made 83 appearances and has 28 goal contributions for the German club. The 22-year-old has taken his game to the next level in the ongoing season. He has 17 goal contributions in 36 outings. The full-backs’ impressive performances have attracted the attention of United.

Erik ten Hag’s team are on the look for a new attacking right back. The future of Aaron Wan-Bissaka at the club is uncertain despite his impressive run in the second half of the season. Ten Hag wants another right-back in his ranks alongside Diogo Dalot, who is expected to pen down a contract extension in the near future.

With Wan-Bissaka likely to part ways in the summer, the Dutch manager wants to add a young pacey full-back who can add more threat from the right-hand side. He is a big admirer of Frimpong and would love to have him in his ranks.

The 22-year-old could be the perfect fit for Ten Hag’s system. As a result, they have already held talks with his agent and things are going according to plan for the Red Devils. However, it will be interesting to see whether they manage to sign him in the summer given the amount of interest from elsewhere.

He has a good number of goals and assists, trade him for Sancho or Antony. Trouble is Frimpong cannot defend !
