Scott McTominay has been linked with a move away from Manchester United this summer, with West Ham United keen on signing him.

According to transfer insider ExWHUEmployee, West Ham United have submitted a verbal enquiry for Scott McTominay. The Red Devils are reportedly ready to cash in on the 26-year-old midfielder this summer. But the West Ham ITK adds that the move seems unlikely.

McTominay is unlikely to get regular game time at the club next season. So it makes sense for Manchester United to cash in on the Scottish international. He has been linked with Newcastle United as well.

The 26-year-old needs to play regularly at this stage of his career, and West Ham could provide him with that opportunity. The Hammers need to bring in midfield reinforcements after the departure of Declan Rice, and McTominay has shown that he is good enough to play at a high level. So the interest in the Manchester United midfielder is understandable.

Manchester United will be hoping to challenge for major trophies in the coming seasons, and the Scottish midfielder is certainly not ideal for that. However, he could be a very reliable option for a mid-table club. So a move to West Ham would be ideal for all parties.

The Hammers will be competing in the UEFA Europa League next season, and they will look to do well across all competitions. They need a deeper squad, and if they can snap up the Manchester United midfielder for a reasonable price, it could prove to be a wise addition.

West Ham have recently sanctioned the departure of Declan Rice to Arsenal. And they will need to bring in multiple midfield reinforcements in order to replace their former captain adequately. So it is hardly surprising that West Ham approached Manchester United for the 26-year-old.

While McTominay is a different player than Rice, he can certainly add work rate and defensive cover to the West Ham midfield. The Hammers should look to bring in a quality defensive midfielder as well.

Meanwhile, McTominay will be hoping to get his career back on track with regular football and the opportunity to join a club with European football could prove to be hard to turn down. It remains to be seen whether West Ham and Manchester United can now agree on a deal before the summer transfer window closes. But a move seems unlikely, as per the ITK.
