Federico Valverde has reportedly rejected an approach from Chelsea, as he does not want to leave Real Madrid this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet AS, Federico Valverde has been the subject of interest from Chelsea. The West London club recently approached the versatile midfielder over a possible move in the summer transfer window. But the 24-year-old utility man does not want to leave Real Madrid anytime soon.

Federico Valverde has come leaps and bounds since joining Real Madrid from CA Penarol in July 2016. The Uruguayan international took some time to get going but has not looked back since establishing a foothold in the first-team squad. And his versatility has made him an asset for Real Madrid in the last few seasons.

Carlo Ancelotti, in particular, has brought the best out of the 24-year-old, who excelled as a right-winger last season. And Valverde amassed 12 goals and seven assists in 56 appearances across all competitions. But with Real Madrid signing Jude Bellingham, a few midfielders have become the subject of interest from high-profile clubs.

Valverde is one such player, with Liverpool and Manchester United keen on signing him. In addition, recent reports have suggested that Mauricio Pochettino wants Chelsea to secure Valverde’s services. And according to AS, the West London club recently approached the player over a possible summer move.

The Blues have lost N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek thus far this summer. In addition, Conor Gallagher faces an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge. So it behoves Chelsea to invest in a top-class midfielder, with Valverde’s name featuring prominently on the wishlist.

But Real Madrid will not entertain any offers for the 24-year-old utility man, who Carlo Ancelotti considers as his trusted lieutenant. Meanwhile, Valverde has turned down Chelsea’s approach. And the report claims the Uruguayan international harbours a dream of being the Real Madrid captain in a few years.

So Valverde has no interest in leaving Real Madrid anytime soon. And the player’s snub leaves Chelsea scouring the market for alternatives. So it will be interesting to see who the Blues sign to bolster their midfield unit this summer.
