Mauricio Pochettino wants Chelsea to push for the signatures of 24-year-old Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde.

According to Defensa Central, Chelsea’s new boss Mauricio Pochettino is a huge admirer of Federico Valverde and wants the Real Madrid midfielder at his disposal ahead of next season. The former Spurs boss has asked the Blues to push for his signatures over a €100 million deal.

Chelsea had a disappointing season last time out. Despite spending a fortune on new players over two transfer windows, they ended up in the bottom half of the table. They had sacked Graham Potter a few weeks before the end of the season, and Frank Lampard guided through the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

The Blues were looking for a new manager throughout and decided to bring Mauricio Pochettino to the club. The Argentine has enough experience of managing in the Premier League, and they feel he can lead their new project.

While the news has been official for weeks, the former Tottenham boss has recently taken charge. And it seems he has already put forward his request to the Blues board. Pochettino wants Valverde at the club. He believes the Uruguayan international can do wonders for them in the centre of the park.

The 24-year-old can be the leader of their project. The Blues have already offloaded quite a few players in the ongoing summer, and they are once again ready to go big on signings. However, signing Valverde is not at all an easy task irrespective of the club’s financial strength.

The Uruguayan international has been a part of Real Madrid since the summer of 2016. He has come up the ranks at the club and was promoted to their first team back in 2018. The 24-year-old hasn’t looked back since and is currently one of their most important players.

Valverde is one of their franchise players, and Real Madrid consider him non-transferable. Meanwhile, the Blues are ready to offer €100 million. And if needed, Chelsea can push the offer up to €120 million as they look to secure the 24-year-old’s services.

However, their efforts will most likely go in vain, as Real Madrid do not intend on selling him and even the player is keen on continuing in Spain. As a result, Chelsea might not be able to fulfil Pochettino’s request to sign Valverde.
