Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund recently approached Chelsea to discuss a deal for Conor Gallagher, valued at £50 million.
According to a report by Daily Mail, Conor Gallagher is the subject of interest from Borussia Dortmund. The Black and Yellows have submitted an enquiry for the Chelsea midfielder. But the Bundesliga giants are behind Newcastle United in the transfer battle. Meanwhile, the Blues want around £50 million to part ways with the English international.
Conor Gallagher would have taken inspiration from Mason Mount when he joined Crystal Palace on loan for the 2021/22 season. After making an impression at Selhurst Park, the 23-year-old returned to Chelsea, hoping to establish a foothold at Stamford Bridge. But his comeback coincided with a horrendous campaign for the West London club.
The Blues were dreadful throughout the 2022/23 season, which saw four managers taking charge at the club. And while Gallagher managed 45 appearances across all competitions, starts came few and far between. But the Englishman’s stock remains high, with several high-profile clubs, including Borussia Dortmund, keen on signing him.
Borussia Dortmund would have hoped to end Bayern Munich’s hegemony over Bundesliga with a Bundesliga triumph this past season. But Edin Terzic’s men inexplicably capitulated on the final day to concede the title to their arch-rivals. In addition, they are bracing themselves for a squad overhaul, particularly in the midfield department.
The Black and Yellows are losing multiple midfielders this summer. While Jude Bellingham has joined Real Madrid, Mahmoud Dahoud is moving to Brighton & Hove Albion. So the Bundesliga heavyweights need to dip their toes into the market for a midfielder. And Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has emerged as a viable target.
The German giants have already approached Chelsea over a possible summer move for the 23-year-old. But Borussia Dortmund will need to pay £50 million to sign him from the West London club. In addition, the Bundesliga heavyweights are behind Newcastle United in the race to secure Gallagher’s services.
While Chelsea will consider offers for Gallagher, paying £50 million might be a bit of a stretch. But it will be interesting to see if Dortmund and Chelsea can agree to an acceptable sum for Gallagher. However, Newcastle United’s presence in the equation complicates matters for the Black and Yellows.
