Chelsea and Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in signing Aymeric Laporte from Manchester City this summer.

According to a report by Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Aymeric Laporte will leave Manchester City in the summer transfer window. And Chelsea and Bayern Munich are keen on signing the 29-year-old centre-back. The Premier League champions are ready to part ways with the defender.

Aymeric Laporte joined Manchester City from Athletic Club in January 2018 in a deal worth €65 million. The Spanish international took little time to establish a foothold at the Etihad. And he has come leaps and bounds in the last half a decade, establishing himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

But the 29-year-old has not been the undisputed first-choice centre-back throughout his stint with Manchester City. And he managed only 24 appearances across all competitions this past season for the Premier League champions. And Laporte’s stint with Manchester City will likely end this summer, with Chelsea and Bayern Munich interested.

Recent reports have linked Laporte with a few Premier League clubs. But Chelsea’s emergence might change the equation, even though the Blues will not play UEFA Champions League football next season. And pursuing a left-footed centre-back should bode well for Chelsea, with Benoit Badiashile still earning his stripes.

In addition, the 29-year-old will bring a winning mentality to the Chelsea squad. So the Premier League-winning defender is an option worth considering for the West London club. But Chelsea will face stiff competition from Bayern Munich in the race to sign the Spanish international.

At Bayern Munich, Thomas Tuchel might lose two defenders from his squad. Recent reports have linked Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard with a summer exit. And while Kim Min-jae might replace Pavard, Laporte is the ideal candidate to fill Hernandez’s void. So it is hardly surprising that Bayern Munich might pursue Laporte’s signature.

Considering Laporte’s stature in the squad, Manchester City will unlikely recoup anything close to €65 million for him. And it will be interesting to see if Chelsea or Bayern Munich can beat the other suitors to the signature of the Premier League-winning defender.
