Chelsea will pursue 33-year-old Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny as an alternative to Inter Milan shot-stopper Andre Onana.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb, Wojciech Szczesny is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues view the 33-year-old Juventus goalkeeper as an alternative to Andre Onana. But with Inter Milan demanding €40-50 million for the Cameroonian shot-stopper, his fellow Serie A ace has emerged as a target.

Wojciech Szczesny has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A for over half a dozen years. The Polish international first arrived in Italy in July 2015, with Arsenal loaning him to AS Roma. And the experienced goalkeeper has come leaps and bounds since joining Juventus from Arsenal in July 2017.

The move to Juventus has worked wonders for Szczesny’s career, and he has been a solid performer for the Bianconeri. The 33-year-old has made 215 appearances for Juventus, keeping 87 clean sheets. But Szczesny’s future is uncertain, with a return to Premier League on the cards amid interest from Chelsea.

Chelsea will likely appoint Mauricio Pochettino as the next manager at Stamford Bridge. And the Argentine tactician is reportedly working on plans for the summer transfer window. That has helped Chelsea identify ideal transfer targets for the West London club. And they are keen on signing a goalkeeper ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Andre Onana is Chelsea’s top target, with the club contacting the Inter Milan goalkeeper’s entourage. But the Cameroonian international’s price tag of €40-50 million is proving to be a deterrent for Chelsea. And the Blues have thus set their sights on Wojciech Szczesny to bolster their squad.

The Juventus goalkeeper is approaching the final phase of his glittering career. But he remains one of the best shot-stoppers in Serie A. So it is hardly surprising that Chelsea might attempt to sign the 33-year-old. But a deal will only see the light of day if Inter Milan’s resolve does not change after slapping a price tag of €40-50 million on Onana.

It will be interesting to see if Pochettino pushes Chelsea to sign Wojciech Szczesny in the summer transfer window. Any deal will likely be controversial, considering the Polish international’s history with Arsenal.
