Chelsea have established contact with Andre Onana, as Mauricio Pochettino might prefer to sign the Inter Milan star.

Ben Jacobs via Give Me Sports reckons Chelsea have already established contact with Andre Onana, although nothing is advanced yet. He has suggested Mauricio that Pochettino might have an input in the signing as the Blues search for a new No.1, with the futures of both their current stars in significant doubt.

Chelsea aim to get back on track and begin challenging for various titles. The West London club are set to end a dismal season that saw them spend over £600 million on new players. They are about to finish outside European places for the first time in a long while.

Not competing in Europe will impact Chelsea financially, but for now, the club will want to look forward and execute their plans for the next window. For starters, they are close to appointing Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager, and afterwards, they might use the Argentine’s input to recruit new players.

Meanwhile, the goalkeeping position is something Chelsea would like to strengthen or revamp. Andre Onana has emerged as a priority target in the window. One or both of Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga could leave Stamford Bridge in the summer, as the position has caused plenty of friction during the season.

As per Ben Jacobs, Chelsea have already contacted Andre Onana and his representatives to sound out a move. He also insisted discussions are only at the initial stages, and nothing seems advanced at this point for the £40 million-rated goalkeeper.

Jacobs said, “Chelsea have reached out already and spoken to Onana at Inter, and there’s nothing necessarily concrete or advanced at this point because Pochettino would have to input to any kind of signing.”

“Particularly goalkeeper, as it’s perhaps the most intriguing signing for Chelsea in many ways because they already have two strong challengers for the number one. But that’s without any clarity for Mendy and Kepa as to who actually would be the number one, and a new manager is going to have to input into that as well.”

Inter have reportedly rejected an earlier offer for the £40 million-rated goalkeeper, as they seek more money in exchange. Chelsea are unwilling to pay beyond their valuation, but interest from rival clubs could dictate their next move.

Furthermore, incoming manager Pochettino may have a big say in this particular transfer which looks increasingly like the Argentine’s first signing at Stamford Bridge. Onana could have a big impact if he arrives in the summer, as he could readily usurp the No.1 spot from its current incumbents.
