Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks and the 51-year-old is now set to take over at Stamford Bridge.

Mauricio Pochettino has been out of a job since leaving Paris Saint-Germain, and he will take over at Chelsea soon. According to reputed Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, there is an agreement in principle, and the former Tottenham manager manager will sign a long-term contract with Chelsea.

The Blues need to bring in a long-term replacement for Graham Potter, and Pochettino should prove to be a quality acquisition. Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is currently the caretaker manager at the club. But the West Londoners have been quite poor under his management.

Pochettino will be expected to make an immediate impact, and it remains to be seen whether he can turn things around at Stamford Bridge. Meanwhile, the managerial appointment should be finalised this week, as per recent reports.

Chelsea have had a disappointing season so far, and they are likely to miss out on Champions League qualification. Despite spending millions of pounds on new signings, Chelsea have not been able to get the best out of their players.

Pochettino has managed in the Premier League before with Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton. The 51-year-old knows the league well and should be able to get the Chelsea squad firing once again. There is no doubt that Chelsea have a talented young squad, and they are capable of challenging for major trophies.

With a couple of quality acquisitions during the summer transfer window, Pochettino should be able to transform them into genuine title contenders next year. Missing out on Champions League football will be a devastating blow for the Blues. So it remains to be seen whether they are forced to sell some players in order to balance the books. Chelsea have spent heavily over the last couple of transfer windows.

But they must look to bring in some extra revenue because of the Financial Fairplay regulations. Chelsea have been linked with managers like Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique as well. However, the Stamford Bridge hierarchy have now decided to press ahead with the appointment of Pochettino, who they believe will be the right man to take the club forward.
