Ousmane Dembele is open to a move to the Premier League, and Newcastle United are reportedly interested in his services.
According to Graeme Bailey via TEAMtalk, Newcastle United would love to have Ousmane Dembele in their ranks. And, the Barcelona star is open to a move to the Premier League. The 25-year-old winger is considered a very important part of the Catalan giants’ setup. However, they might have to consider his sale for a few different reasons.
Dembele came into the limelight on the back of his heroics while playing at Borussia Dortmund. His performances resulted in a record-breaking move to Barcelona in the summer of 2017. The France international might have struggled with injuries, but he has surely done his bit.
He has featured in a total of 178 matches for Barcelona and has been involved in 81 goals. The 25-year-old has scored 40 goals and has 41 assists to his name. People at the club would love to have him for a few more years. However, his contract situation as well as the club’s financial woes suggest he could be on the move in the summer.
The French international has been involved in 28 matches in the ongoing season and has been involved in 15 goals. He has been an integral part of Xavi’s team, but his new contract is set to expire in the summer of 2024.
With just over a year left on his contract, the club need to make a decision about his future. Either they will have to sell him in the summer or risk losing out on him for free in the following summer window. With Barcelona pushing to re-sign Lionel Messi amidst their financial crisis, selling Dembele could help their cause.
Meanwhile, there is a lot of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies have done wonders in the ongoing season and are looking to further bolster their squad ahead of next season.
Bailey said, “Dembele could very well be one of those given he has genuine interest. Chelsea and Arsenal both liked him last summer, when he was considering leaving, but now Newcastle have shown a real interest.”
Newcastle United could feature in the Champions League next season, and they are also expected to push for the Premier League title. The club have done great transfer business over the last few windows and have their eyes on Dembele.
