Jeremie Frimpong is reportedly eager to join Manchester United in the summer transfer window amid interest from Barcelona.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Jeremie Frimpong is clear about his next destination. The Dutch full-back is a target for Barcelona and Bayern Munich. But the Bayer Leverkusen defender is keen on joining Manchester United when he leaves the Bundesliga club.

Jeremie Frimpong spent most of his formative years in England with the Manchester City Academy. But he rose to prominence after joining Celtic, spending 18 months at the Scottish club. And the 22-year-old has seen his stock soar since moving to Bayer Leverkusen in January 2021.

The Dutchman has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Bundesliga in the last two years. And Frimpong has enjoyed an excellent 2022/23 season thus far, amassing eight goals and nine assists. The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Barcelona and Manchester United setting their sights on him.

Barcelona recently joined the race to sign Frimpong as Joan Laporta eyes a right-back signing. The Barcelona president has revealed that the Blaugrana will look to sign a right-back in the summer transfer window. And that stance is hardly surprising, considering they are yet to fill Dani Alves’s void at Spotify Camp Nou.

With Xavi Hernandez utilising Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo as right-backs this term, the issue is evident. And Frimpong is an option worth considering for Barcelona. But the Catalan giants face stiff competition from Manchester United for the 22-year-old. And the youngster is reportedly keen on joining the Red Devils this summer.

Recent reports have claimed that Manchester United are ahead of Barcelona in the chase for the Dutchman. And Fabrizio Romano corroborates that, claiming the Bayer Leverkusen full-back is keen on joining Barcelona. Meanwhile, the player will likely replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford.

Apart from Barcelona and Manchester United, Frimpong is also a target for Bayern Munich. But with Manchester United in the pole position to sign him, it will be interesting to see if the other suitors turn his head. For now, the Red Devils remain clear in the race to land the 22-year-old.
