Callum Hudson-Odoi has his future hanging in the balance, as Chelsea could sell him if he fails to sign a new contract in the summer.

Fabrizio Romano via Caught Offside has claimed Callum Hudson-Odoi could depart Chelsea if they cannot agree on a new deal with the winger. The 22-year-old attacker will have a year left on his contract in the summer as the Blues ponder a sale to boost their financial standings.

Chelsea are not in a good financial state after a series of outlays in the last two windows. When new owner Todd Boehly took over the club, they were a loss-making organisation and even posted record losses in the recent financial showings.

They are under the Premier League FFP spotlight and could earn their wrath if the situation does not improve. Chelsea could consider selling some of their homegrown or academy players to show good financial returns, with several of them with the chance to leave.

Mason Mount would become the headline act to depart Stamford Bridge, along with Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah and now Callum Hudson-Odoi. The 22-year-old attacker had difficult beginnings since breaking into the Chelsea first team.

His performances suffered a visible dip, with Chelsea opting to send him on loan rather than selling him. Not many clubs were keen last summer to sign the 22-year-old attacker due to his huge wages. But that situation could change in the next window.

During his loan spell with Bayer Leverkusen, Hudson-Odoi has failed to make the necessary impact with his performances. A single goal and assist in all competition barely shows any progress, but he continues to have admirers from the Premier League.

Overall, Hudson-Odoi could depart Chelsea in the summer for a new challenge where he feels settled. The Blues are reportedly ready to evaluate his career and could even offer a new deal. However, the new contract could ensure the club have a strong hold on the player, especially if interest mounts in the 22-year-old attacker.

Chelsea could sell the attacker if Hudson-Odoi fails to agree on a new contract. The claim comes from Fabrizio Romano in his Caught Offside column, as the journalist insists it’s a do-or-die situation for the winger.

Romano said, “Callum Hudson-odoi’s future will depend on who the side’s new manager will be. This is a crucial decision for any player who may be considering their future. They need to know what Chelsea plan on doing in the summer. For sure though, with just 12 months left on his deal, Chelsea have no intention of losing players for free, so for Hudson-odoi – it’s extend deal or be sold.”

Hudson-Odoi holds a high place in the minds of many top-level managers. Some believe the 22-year-old attacker has a good future. But the Chelsea system has failed to see him progress. He could flourish under the right surroundings, but that could also happen at Chelsea under a new manager in the summer.

Chelsea might evaluate him in pre-season before deciding his future at the club. He remains a young prospect for many, but Chelsea could cash in during the next window to improve their coffers.
