Callum Hudson-Odoi is a summer target for Arsenal, with Chelsea likely to include the 22-year-old winger in a major clear-out.
According to The Guardian, Callum Hudson-Odoi could leave Chelsea as part of a major summer clear-out. Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing the winger as Mikel Arteta remains keen to extend his project with another arrival of a young, promising star.
Arsenal and Chelsea had contrasting windows in January. But both met their overall objectives in the market. The Gunners decided to spend wisely and recruit essential players in attack, midfield, and defence. On the other hand, the Blues chose to splash significantly to sign several young players.
Chelsea headlined deadline day with the capture of Enzo Fernandez. The World Cup winner became the British record transfer, as the Blues decided to pay slightly over €120 million for his signature. The Argentine midfielder was only the icing on the cake in a huge window for the west Londoners.
Chelsea spent over €100 million on two separate transfers, with Mykhaylo Mudryk being the other player. Apart from the duo, the Blues also signed Andrey Santos, David Datro Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, and Noni Madueke, taking their spending to over €300 million in January.
The arrival of many young players has left the futures of several existing stars in limbo. Omari Hutchinson and Hakim Ziyech saw their loan moves fail due to Chelsea submitting incorrect paperwork on deadline day. In the summer, however, they could depart alongside plenty of others.
Callum Hudson-Odoi could be one of them. The 22-year-old Chelsea winger is away on loan at Bayer Leverkusen. While he has not set the world alight in the Bundesliga, his displays still have the attention of Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.
The 22-year-old Chelsea winger’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer of 2024, meaning he will have a year left once he returns from Germany. Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing him and could launch an approach. After the acquisition of Jorginho, they might be confident of doing another deal with the Blues.
Arteta wants to take the English winger to build his project further and views Hudson-Odoi as a good fit in his system. Arsenal could integrate him into their setup and aid his development, which has stagnated in the last few years.
