Aston Villa, Crystal Palace vying for Santiago Gimenez

Aston Villa and Crystal Palace are reportedly keen on signing in-form Feyenoord striker, Santiago Gimenez.

According to a report from 90min, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace have been keeping tabs on 21-year-old striker Santiago Gimenez. And they are impressed with his performances for Dutch outfit Feyenoord this season.

The talented young Mexican striker has 21 goals across all competitions and could prove to be a quality, long-term investment for the two Premier League clubs.

Crystal Palace have had a disappointing captain so far, and they will need to strengthen the squad at the end of the season. The Eagles need to bring in a top-quality goalscorer. And Gimenez certainly fits the profile. Furthermore, star winger Wilfried Zaha will be a free agent in the summer. So Crystal Palace will need to improve their attacking unit in order to cope with his departure.

Bringing in a reliable goalscorer will certainly help the team, and it remains to be seen whether the Eagles can convince Feyenoord to sell their prized prospect at end of the season. The 21-year-old Mexican has proven his quality in Dutch football. And he will be excited to test himself at a higher level. The opportunity to join the Premier League is likely to be an attractive idea for him.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa have shown impressive phone since the arrival of Unai Emery, and they could push for European qualification next season. The West Midlands club decided to cash in on Danny Ings during the January transfer window. So they are currently left with Ollie Watkins as the only reliable striker at the club.

The 27-year-old has been in splendid form since the arrival of Unai Emery. But Aston Villa need to add more depth to their side. Gimenez would be a solid, long-term investment for them and he could form a quality partnership with Watkins next season. Interestingly, both Crystal Palace and Aston Villa also have mutual interest in Alfredo Morelos.

Aston Villa will certainly be a more attractive option for the Mexican striker, especially if they manage to secure European qualification. Furthermore, they have one of the best managers in the world in Unai Emery. And the 21-year-old Mexican striker could be tempted to play under the Spanish manager.
