Real Madrid will reportedly prioritise signing 22-year-old free-scoring Manchester City phenom Erling Haaland in 2024.
According to a report by Spanish outlet AS, Erling Haaland remains the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions view the 22-year-old as a priority target for the 2024 summer transfer window. But he has a hefty release clause worth between €220 million and €240 million.
Erling Haaland has the world at his feet before even reaching the peak years of his career. The young striker broke onto the scene during his short stint with Red Bull Salzburg, as he scored goals for fun in the first half of the 2019/20 season. Borussia Dortmund then snapped him up in January 2020 before he became a free-scoring phenom.
The 22-year-old enjoyed productive two-and-a-half seasons with Dortmund before arriving in the Premier League. And Haaland’s progress at Manchester City has been stupendous. The Norwegian striker continues scoring goals for fun, finding the back of the net 42 times in 37 appearances thus far. Such output has alerted several clubs, including Real Madrid.
The reigning La Liga champions hold a long-standing interest in the Manchester City phenom. Haaland’s name has been on Real Madrid’s agenda since his days at Red Bull Salzburg. But Real Madrid chose not to sign him last summer, as Karim Benzema has been sensational for half a decade.
But the Real Madrid captain has endured fitness issues this season. And with Benzema entering the final phase of his glittering career, the Merengues need to lay down a succession plan. They will see Endrick arriving in less than 18 months. But the young Brazilian is still raw and cannot take over from the veteran Frenchman immediately. Haaland is thus a viable target for Real Madrid.
