Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are keeping an eye on Manchester City marksman Erling Haaland.

According to a report by Fichajes, Real Madrid and Barcelona are interested in signing Manchester City star striker Erling Haaland. The Citizens are in a spot of bother because of irregularities in their financial statements. Things might take an ugly turn for the club if these allegations stand, and they might end up losing some of their biggest stars.

Manchester City have been charged by the Premier League for alleged breaches of Financial Fair Play rules. They have been found guilty of 100 breaches during a period of around ten years. An independent commission is set to analyze and investigate the matter before delivering the final sanctions.

If these allegations are found to be true, Manchester City could face points deduction or they might even be relegated. The future looks dark for Pep Guardiola’s team, and they might end up missing out on Champions League football next season.

As a result, a few of their biggest stars might look for alternatives. Erling Haaland is one of their best performers, and if they do not feature in the Champions League, he might want to leave the club. The 22-year-old joined Manchester City in the summer of 2022.

Since joining the Premier League champions, he has been on fire. Haaland has been scoring goals for fun, breaking records every time he steps out on the field. The Norway international has scored 25 goals in 20 league games this season. He has 31 goals in 28 matches in all competitions. With around half the season still left, he is expected to thrash a few more records.

Real Madrid and Barcelona both have their eyes set on Haaland’s situation. If Manchester City lose out on European competition next season, the Spanish giants will have a chance to push for a striker.

Real Madrid would love to add Haaland to the mix after failing to land long-time target Kylian Mbappe. Karim Benzema is already 35, and they do not have a replacement for their captain. Signing the 22-year-old will give them a long-term solution for their frontline.

As far as Barcelona are concerned, they won’t mind adding a world-class striker to their ranks. They might have Robert Lewandowski at the club, but he is not getting younger. Having Haaland will ensure them a lot of goals for at least a decade. It will also give them a chance to challenge rivals Real Madrid for European glory.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Manchester City in the near future. If they face any serious sanctions, they might end up losing out on their most prolific goal scorer. And Barcelona and Real Madrid will likely remain fixated on the situation.
