La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly mulling over signing veteran Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Cesar Azpilicueta is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are ready to offer €10 million to secure the services of the Chelsea defender. And the 33-year-old might depart from Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

Cesar Azpilicueta has carved a last legacy at Chelsea since arriving from Marseille in August 2012. The Spaniard gradually rose in stature at the west London club while being a regular in the defensive unit. And he became the Chelsea captain after Gary Cahill departed from Stamford Bridge.

But the 33-year-old has seen his performance levels drop in the last few years. But despite not being as reliable as in his heydays, the veteran defender has turned out 26 times this season. But Azpilicueta’s long-term Chelsea future is uncertain, with Malo Gusto set to arrive in the summer. Such a situation has captured the attention of Real Madrid.

Real Madrid will not sign a top-class right-back in the summer transfer window despite Dani Carvajal’s inconsistencies. The Spanish international is not the same player he was half a decade ago. But Carlo Ancelotti continues to trust Carvajal as Real Madrid’s first-choice right-back.

However, it behoves Real Madrid to scour the market for an alternative to Carvajal. That is because Lucas Vazquez has blown hot and cold in the last couple of seasons. In addition, Alvaro Odriozola does not feature in Ancelotti’s long-term plans. Azpilicueta has thus emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid.

The report claims that the reigning La Liga champions are ready to offer €10 million to sign the Chelsea defender. In addition, Azpilicueta’s long-term Chelsea future is uncertain, considering Malo Gusto will arrive in the summer. So he might depart from Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

It will be interesting to see if an offer worth €10 million will do the trick for Real Madrid this summer. For now, the reigning La Liga champions look ready to launch the offensive to sign the Chelsea captain.
