Real Madrid are looking to improve their defensive department with the signing of Cesar Azpilicueta.

According to a report from Fichajes, Cesar Azpilicueta is on Carlo Ancelotti’s transfer radar. And Real Madrid could make their move for the 33-year-old Chelsea defender in January.

Azpilicueta has been a key player for Chelsea since joining the club. And it will be interesting to see if the Blues are prepared to let him leave during the January transfer window. The experienced defender can play as a right-back as well as a centre-back. He could be a useful addition to the Real Madrid backline this season.

Dani Carvajal has had his fair share of injury problems in recent months, and Azpilicueta would be a alternative for him at Real Madrid. Furthermore, players like Nacho Fernandez and Jesus Vallejo are expected to leave the club at the end of the season. So Real Madrid will need to bring in defensive reinforcements.

Although the Chelsea defender is in his twilight years, he could still be a quality addition to the side. The report from Fichajes claims that Real Madrid could present an offer of €10 million for the experienced defender when the transfer window opens in January.

Chelsea are currently fighting for UEFA Champions League qualification, and it seems highly unlikely that they will let a key player leave midway through the season. It seems that Real Madrid might have to wait until the end of the season in order to sign him.

The 33-year-old was linked with the move to Barcelona during the summer transfer window. But Chelsea managed to hold on to him and extend his contract. The fans will be hoping that the Blues can hold on to their star defender until the summer transfer window.

Apart from his qualities as a defender, Azpilicueta is a leader in the Chelsea dressing room, and his departure would leave a massive void. The experienced Spanish defender has helped the club win trophies like the Premier League and the Champions League during his time at Stamford Bridge, and he is admired by the Stamford Bridge faithful.

The Chelsea fans are unlikely to be happy if Graham Potter sanctions his departure midway through the season. It will be interesting to see if Real Madrid can secure his services next year.
