Barcelona prodigy Ilias Akhomach is reportedly closing in on joining Leeds United after agreeing to a four-year contract.

According to a report on Spanish outlet El Chiringuito TV, Ilias Akhomach will not be a Barcelona player for long. The 18-year-old wonderkid is set to leave the Blaugrana as a free agent in the summer transfer window. And his next destination is seemingly Leeds United, with whom he has agreed to a four-year contract.

Ilias Akhomach is one of the most promising young prospects to have emanated from Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy in recent years. The Spanish under-19 international started his youth career with Hostalets de Pierola. He then moved to Gimnastic Manresa before joining Barcelona, where he has risen through the ranks.

The 18-year-old currently plies his trade for Barcelona Atletic. And the teenage wonderkid has also made three appearances for the Barcelona first team. But with opportunities coming few and far between, the youngster will leave as a free agent. And Akhomach’s next destination seems to be Leeds United.

Several other clubs have shown interest in the Barcelona prodigy. In La Liga, Sevilla had been keen on signing the highly-rated attacker. He was also a target for several Serie A clubs, including AC Milan. But Akhomach is seemingly on his way to Leeds United in the summer transfer window.

Marcos Benito has claimed that the 18-year-old will sign a four-year contract with Leeds United. But such an early decision by Akhomach might be ill-informed amid Leeds’s battle to remain in the Premier League. Nonetheless, the interest from the West Yorkshire club is understandable.

The Whites have signed several attackers in the last two transfer windows. But they continue to struggle for consistency in the final third. And with Luis Sinisterra failing to stamp his authority, signing a young competitor is ideal. Barcelona wonderkid Ilias Akhomach has thus emerged as a top target for Leeds United.

Nonetheless, the 18-year-old is Leeds-bound after agreeing to a four-year contract. And Barcelona will lose another highly-rated prospect instead of seeing him shine in the first team. It will be interesting to see if the Spanish under-19 international will ply his trade in the Premier League or the EFL Championship next season.
