Leeds United will reportedly look to sign 18-year-old Barcelona prodigy Ilias Akhomach in a Bosman move this summer.
According to a report by ESPN, Ilias Akhomach is the subject of interest from Leeds United. The Whites want to sign the Barcelona prodigy in the summer transfer window. But they will face an uphill task of convincing the 18-year-old amid their struggles in the Premier League.
Ilias Akhomach spent the first few years of his youth career with Hostalets de Pierola and Gimnastic Manresa before joining Barcelona in 2017. The Spanish under-19 international has come leaps and bounds in the Catalan club’s youth division in the last five and a half years. And he has become a pivotal figure for Barcelona Atletic this season.
The 18-year-old has also made three appearances for the first team but is yet to stamp his authority at Spotify Camp Nou. But Akhomach’s contract situation has left Barcelona in a spot of bother as he is in the final few months of his deal. Such a development has captured the attention of Leeds United.
Leeds United bolstered the offensive unit heavily last summer by signing Luis Sinisterra and Brenden Aaronson. But the duo has not been consistent enough, with the former also suffering from fitness issues. And the arrival of Georginio Rutter in January has not curbed Leeds’s downward spiral, either.
Wilfried Gnonto has been the only positive for Leeds United in a frustrating season that has seen Jesse Marsch depart from Elland Road. And Raphinha has seemingly left a gaping hole at the West Yorkshire club since joining Barcelona. Interestingly, the Brazilian faces an uncertain future at Camp Nou after struggling to make his mark for Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Akhomach is a viable target for Leeds United, especially on a Bosman move this summer. The 18-year-old has shown a lot of promising signs while representing Barcelona Atletic. And the Spanish under-19 international can potentially be the ideal foil for Gnonto in the attack.
But convincing the 18-year-old Barcelona prodigy to move to Elland Road will be a tall order. That is also because other top clubs, like AC Milan, are keen on signing the youngster. But the Whites can make their case if they survive relegation in the coming months.
